Allah Almighty says in Surah Tariq verses 5-7 (86:5-7)-

فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
خُلِقَ مِن مَّاء دَافِقٍ
يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ

In the Qur’an, God mentions in a unique manner that man was created from spurting fluid (semen), released from between the backbone and ribcage [chapter 86/verse5-7].

Between the backbone and ribcage there is an important anatomical structure is located called- ‘spinal cord’.

We know that semen is produced in the human testes and is expelled from our bodies through a specific mechanism called ‘Ejaculation’. Remarkably, this Ejaculation process is regulated from the spinal cord, specifically by the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Although semen is produced in the testicles, it’s the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, located in the spinal cord, that control the ejaculation process. Parasympathetic innervation raises the penis, while sympathetic innervation, surprisingly, entirely governs the ejaculation process. Notably, sympathetic innervation is situated at the T11–L2 level of our spinal cord, a region of spinal cord located at the level of lower thorax.

The Holy Quran uses the term ‘spurting fluid.’ By employing this term, the Quran is referring to the process of ejaculation, not the production of semen, which occurs in the human testicles.

In the Holy Qur’an the attention is drawn to this ejaculatory process in a very surprising way.

1400 years ago, nobody had the knowledge that the spinal cord regulates the process of ejaculation. The spinal centers responsible for ejaculation are located between the thorax and the ribs. This is why the Quran is considered miraculous; it mentions a phenomenon that was completely unknown during the time of its revelation

A study published in a journal of Oxford University said:

The sympathetic innervation exits the spinal cord at T11–L2 level and reaches the penis via the inferior mesenteric, hypogastric, and pelvic plexuses. It is responsible for the emission and ejaculation through coordinated contractions of the vas deferens, ampulla, seminal vesicles, prostate, and the bladder neck.
